WAR MEMORIAL.
■ * TO TOE EDITOR O* "THB PRESS." Sir,—As one of your readers who takes great interest in the correspondence regarding war memorials I cannot agroe with the idea of memorial halls, gardens, bridges, etc., or any buildings that are to serve other To me it looks a sneaking way of getting something for nothing, and does not do full justice to our splendid heroes. I profer a solid monument; give it all the artistic merit possible, and as much weight and grandeur as we can run to. And, as a humble suggestion, how would this answer: At the foot end of Colombo street a main arch to span the road fov tram and road traffic, two side arches for foot traffic, if it could be partly up the hill to get eood foundation, so much the better, but it must face Colombo street, and look towards Cathedral. It should be massive, and a mor.umont erected over the main arch, and put all the art you can into it for the ftiture millions to. see who will be going to the beautiful hill drives. Yours, etc.,
