KAIAPOI FREEZING WORKS.
INSPECTION BY SHAREHOLDERS. Tiiero was a large gathering of shareholders in the North Canterbury Sheepfarmers' Co-operative • Freezing Company, and ottiors, at Iho company's , works at Kaiapoi yesterday, the directors ha'-ing issued an invitation to shareholders and others to view the works whon in full operation, and to inspect the many improvements effected since the works were opened three seasons ago. The visitors included the Hon. it. Moore, M.L.C., tho Hon. C. Louisson, M.L.C., the Hon. D. Buddo, M.P., Air G. Witty, M.l\, Mr G. W. Forbes, M.P., Mr tl. Holland (Mayor of Cliristchurchi Sir C. 1. Jennings (Mayor of Rangiora), Mr AY. Doubledav (chairman AVaimakariri Harbour Board), Mr f W. Nicholls, and many others. The directors present were: Messrs G. D. Greenwood (chairman), J. H. Blackweil (Mayor of Kaiapoi). T. Stone, C. 0. T. l'utherford, W. AV. McR-ae, F. H. Courage, and E. P. H. Burbury. After a thorough inspection of tho fine up-to-date works, those present were tho guests of tho directors at luncheon in the new woolshed. Mr G. D. Greenwood presided, and about 400 ' ant down to an appetising repast. The following toasts were honoured: "The King," N.Z. Government," proposed by Mr T. Stone, and responded to bv tho Hon. D. Buddo. 31.P., Hon. R. Moore, M.L.C., and Mr G. Witty, M.P.; "The Agricultural and Pastoral Industries," proposed by Mr G. Gardner, and responded to* bv Mr J. A. Henley. "Tho Freezing Industries" was proposed by Mr E. D. Giles. j Tho chairman, "n responding, stated j 'that tho North Canterbury Sheepfarmers' Co-operative Freezing Co. had, by a special process, saved the shareholders from. Is to 4s each on their sheep and . lnmb skins. Ho deplored tho fact that Xew Zealand's largest shipping company had now amalgamated with a largo English Jirni. and said that, in his opmioii. tlie meat ships, or some, of them, piying between tho Dominion and the Homeland should bo owned not by the Government, but by the fanners. In tho near future he expected to bo interested in tho formation of such a co-operative farmers' shipping company. .Air P. Ogilvie also responded. Mr J. H. Blackweil proposed tho toast- ol "The Visitors," which was responded to by Mr H. Holland (M?yor of Christchureh). Mr Holland, in the course of his remarks, on behalf of members of tho French Mission, apologised for their absence, and stated that probubiv some members of tho Mission would visit tho works bofore they loft Canterburv.
