w SCOTTISH SOCIETY. .There was a ; very large ottotadance last night n,t the mpnthly ceilidh of the Scottish Bociety, Chief A. W. M(*3illivray presiding. The programme submitted consisted of Highland reels by'the juveniles, Highland stepdancea by Muses Gladys Brockenridge, Bita Hands, and Gwen . Ritchie (Timaru), and 'songs by Mrs Stallard, Miss Caygill, and Miss Hall, Messrs Chae. Bills, Arthur Macdooald, and Master J. Grieve. Mies Bessie Maodonald wes accompanist, and Pipers G.. MoAlister and W. Frascr played iOr tho.ti.igh* land danoee-. The proceedings closed with a i danco and the singing of "Auld Lang Syne." LOYAL ADDINGTON LODGE. At ihe adjourned summoned meeting of the Loyal' Aldington Lodge, N.G. Bro. R. Simes presided. Tho following officers .were installed:—N.G., Bro. W. W. Hewinson; V.G., Bro.'H. ~W. Gourlay; E.S., Bro. W. Stewart. Other offices wore filled as follows:—R.S.N.G., Bro. W. Larcombe, P.G.; L.S.N.G., Bro. T. Candy, P.G.; R.S.V.G., Bro. D. Harris, P.G.; L.S. to V.G., Bro. R. Timras; Warden, Bro. H. W. Quartermain; Guardian, Bro. W. Jeffery. Several brothers spoko con- | gratulating the lodgo on having for the first time in several years elected young members to fill all the major offices. A very animated discussion arose on a motion ,to appoint a permanent sick visitor. After a long debate the motion was lost. A subsequent < one, that the sick visitor, i.e., the N.G.. o£ the lodge, present a written report every Iclge night on the,condition of sick brothers, wiia carried. The following were nominated for district offices:—D.P.G.M., Bro. W. Johnsou, P.G.; Board of Management, Bro. J. Paterson, P.G., and Bro. "W. Johnson, P.G. Bro. J. A. Clark, P.P.G.M., delegate to the Dispensary Board, presented the quarterly report of that body. VEST CHRISTCHURCH D.H. SCHOOL COMMITTEE. j The monthly ■ meeting of the West Christchurch District High School Committee was /attended by the Mayor. Messrs J. Middleton, E. Parlane, H. S. Whitham, and Rev. P. Rule. The Mayor was voted to the chair, an apology having been received from Dr. Chilton. The Board forwarded a circular letter giving reasons why it had been decided not to re-open the school before 27th icst., and took the opportunity to express it 3 high, appreciation of the good work dono by school committees and teachers in connexion with the influenza epidemic, and its condolences with those who had suffered bereavement. It was agreed to send to the headmaster a copy of the Board's' recognition of the teachers' services, and ask him to convey it to the teachers. The" Board paid to the credit of the. committee the supplementary grant for incidentals for the year ending March 31st, 1919, along with the usual quarterly allowance. Some discussion took place as to the possibility of the teaching of Irench being a-Jded to the curriculum, in the secondary department, but in the_ absence of the chairman and headmaster this subject, along with teaching history calculated to cultivate patriotism in the scholars, were postponedtor consideration at the next meeting.
