LATE MR ROOSEVELT.
A NATION IN MOURNING. (By Cable.—Frees Association.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) WASHINGTON,. January 7. President Wilson has issued a proclamation relative to the death of Mr Roosevelt. Ho has directed that flags on public buildiDgs shall be flown at half-mast for thirty days, and military and naval honours shown at the funoral. President Wilson said that when Mr Roosevelt was President he awoke tho nation to the danger of private control of great industries and undertakings. King George and Queen Mary have cabled thoir condolences to Mrs Roosevelt. They said: —"We had a personal regard for your distinguished husband. He will oe missed by many friends in Englad, to whom he endeared himself." MESSAGES. OF SYMPATHY. (Received January 9th, 7.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, January 8. President Wilson has sent a message of sympathy to Mrs Roosevelt. Queen Alexandra cabled: —"I am indeed grieved to hear of the death of your distinguished husband, for whom I had the greatest regard. Please accept my deepest sympathy in your irreparable loss."
