ELLESMER.E. The monthly mooting of tlio Eilesmero County Council, h«ld lit X»eosfcou on Monduy, was attended by Cis. J. Cunningham, J. S. Boag, J. Stony, J. P. McEvt'dy, F. J. Lemon, and James Quigley. Mr Cunningham wiu; -unanimously ro-clect-cd cliairmau. Two petitions i~ere received from the shopkeepers at Leeston, ono asking that Wednesday should be fixed upon as the day on which the statutory half-holiday is observed this year, the other asking; that the Saturday half-holiday slionM continue. It was decided to call a upeciul meeting- on the lGtli inst. to decide the question. It was decided to tuke legal action against a ratepayer to compel her to have a. drain at Taumutu cleaned. Two applications for uuciionccrs'. licenses were granted. A liat of occupiers who liarl faik<l to c.e.ni races as required by the Council's by-laws was furnished ,by the waterworks caretaker, and it was decid-id to issue summonses forthwith. The clerk was instructed to reply to the Springs County Council that tha Ellcsmcre Council was not buying birds' heada andegga. The Scuthbridge Town Board asked if it had power i-o compel ratepayers to clce.ii races on their frontages, and complained that tho supply of water to tho townahip races was irregular. Instruction? wero given tlvj clerk to reply that the only powers the Board hud in regard to cleaning v.-ere these conferred by its own by-laws, and that tha complaint regarding tho irregular supply of water was being referred to the caretaker. Mr Robert Allan notified tho Council that he had 6old his hut at the Hakaia. mouth to Mr I. Denton, of Springston South. It was decided to call the, ranger's attention. to complaints regarding slock on the roads. The engineer was instructed to repair Doyle's bridge. The dog fees were fixed as last year:—2s 6d for shc-ep dogj, and ICs for other dogs. Cr. McEvedy mentioned that on two occasions tho bridge on Smith's road, near his farm, had been in danger of being destroyed by fire. The Council decided to offer a reward for information leading to the conviction of any person lighting fires endangering the bridge. T The tender of Mr T.
