BOROUGH COUNCILS.
« SPIIEYDON. The Snreydon Council met last night, i-resent—The iiuyor (Mr W. H. Winsoi), and Cr3. E. O'Kourke, D. Williamson, G. ±1. lludd, A. E. Brewer. J. I'. Diack, W. K. (rohagan, A. Munhirp, IiTH." Clarke. . The financial statement showed a debit balance at the bank of £1803 0s 4d. The foreman supplied a dotailed account- of tho various small improvements, mendings, etc., done in tho borough einc© the laet meeting. Tho report was adopted. With reference to the recent opidemic, tho Hawera Borough Council wrote enclosing resolutions it had passed to the eifect vhat the necessity should bo urged on the Government for so arranging that the administration of the Health Department should be placed on 6uch a basis as would command the respoct and confidence of tho people of the Dominion, that one health inspector should -be appointed for each health district, and that a resident medical man should be appointed district health officer for each provincial district iQ the Dominion, It was decided to endorse the resolutions. Letters from tho Napier and Hastings Borough Councils bearing on aspects of the epidemic were merely received. The Town Clerk of Christchurch wrote to the effect that the matter of the Borough Council's electrical undertaking being taken over by the City Council had been carefully considered by th« City Council's Electricity Committee, and was now m an advanced state and tho committee would be prepared to make a recommendation very shortly. The letter was received.
