At the inquest on Private Roberts, s aged nineteen, a member of the ; : Cheshire Regiment, who died in Fulham % Hospital after repatriation -from Ger- ' many, doctors gave evidence that he died from tuberculosis, due to starvation and- privations. Roberts only 3 weighed sixty-six pounds. He informed the doctors that he was employed in - carrying rails behind the German Hnes, and saw parties of exhausted men fall tinder the weight of the rails, which pinned them down. They were allowed to lie helpless until they died. A verdict was returned of . manl;' slaughter against the German officials.
