The Hon. J. A. Hanan leaves Dunodin for the North to-day.' Mrs McDonough j 313 Armagh street, has received advice that her son, Pilot Maurice McDonough, has been appointed 2nd Lieutenant. Prior to entering the Aviation School at Scckburn. Lieut. McDonough was a teacher at the Lyttelton school. Mr W. C. Collier, secretary of the Wellington Head Centre of the Royal Life-Saving Society, has been granted the Society's Distinguished -Service Medal. Mr Collier is very well known in swimming circles, and it is chiefly owing to his splendid work that the Wellington Head ■, Cent re lias made such remarkable progress. He has consistently advocated the teachjng of tho Society's methods, and to him, mairify, credit is due for the large number who havo qualified in tho Wellington district (says the "Post"). Only one other Distinguished Service Medal has been granted to New Zealand, and tho holder is a Wellington resident, Mr G. S. Hill.
