SEQUEL TO JEWEL ROBBERY. (By Cable.—Press Asaocia tion.—Copyright^ (Received July 18th, 10.25 p.m.)' Ssfl>j\EY. July 18. There was a sensational sequel to the recent motor-car and jewel robbery. The police learned that the thieves would attempt to dispose of the proceeds, and therefore set a trap" at certain pawnbrokers' sheps. A man appeared at one of them, but evidently recognised tiie detective, and fired point blank, wounding the detective twice. An exciting chase followed, in which the other detectives joined. Fifteen shots were exchanged, but the suspect escaped. • A recent cable message stated that a motor-car, containing jewellery valued at £2500, the property of JUr Rosebeiy, jeweller, was stolen in the city. Later the car was found abandoned at Stanmore. ""The robbery was a most daring one. Mr Rosebery,'a wholesale jeweller, left the motor-car in broad daylight in George street, while he entered a shop. He was absent for ten minutes, ano on returning the car had disappeared. Before leaving it he had locked the 6witch-box, but the car fittings being standardised, the thiaves were able to Unlock it.
