PLOUGHING AT LEESTON.
TO THE EDITOR OF "THE PRESS. Sir,-In reading your Leeston notes of July 15th, I was rather surprised at vour correspondent's account of the irioiuzhing bco on i-ho soldiers settle* Jnent there. There were, it appears, 60 acres to plough, and there had been six thiee-furro v and six double-furrow ploughs working ono day each. Assuming that a three-furrow turns over 6 acres per day, and a double-furrow { acres, this accounts for the 60 acres, and yet the report goes on to say that "several'-other farmers have promised to helfo and the ploughing will "probably" be finished this week. As there is a full week left-, and, of course, weather permitting, it is to be hoped it will he finished. It appears to me that your correspondent has mado a'mistake, njoro especially in view of the fact that only by speeding up will the few remaining ploughmen be able to carry ou. —-Yours, ctc., NORTH CANTERBURY
