THE FALLEN AND WOUJNDED. y —• PERSONAL NOTES Private letters from England bring news of the death of Driver J. S. (Syd.) Cork, who was killed in action in i< ranee on March 26th. The deceased soldier came out from England some years ago, and at the outbreak of the war enlisted, both in Christcliurch aud Wellington, but, failing to pafiß, returned to England and immediately joined his old company, the Royal juigmeers, with whom he served ill the South African war. He was wellknown in Christchurch. Official advice has been received by Mr G. B. Nelson, of Colombo street north, that his son, Sapper C. L. Nelson, is being invalided back to New Zealand, owing to heart trouble. Sapper Nekon has had about two years on active service with the New Zealand j Engineers in France. Prior to enlisting in the 14th New Zealand Reinforce- j ments. he was in the servioe of the j Canadian Pacific Railway Company at Brandon, Manitoba Province. Mr R. Billens, 13 Eversleigh street, St. Albans, has been advised that his j nephew, Private J. B. Park, was admitted to hospital in England on July 4tb suffering from old wounds. Mr J. M. Hamnton, Hinds, has received advice that his son, Trooper F. J. Hampton, who was reported to be suffering from cerebro-spinal fever, has been removed from the seriously ill list, and is now convalescent. Trooper Hampton is attached to the mounted i section in Egypt. | Advice has been received that Private George Culverhouso was admitted to hospital in England on May 15th suffering from debility. He is now at Walton-on-Thames, and is making a good recovery. Private Culverhouse fe;t Ashburton with the Twenty-seventh Reinforcements. ! j Mr W. Breading, of the Mead, has i received word that his son, Private George Breading, who left with the 26th,. Reinforcements, and was gassed . in France, is now progressing favonrJ ably. He is in hospital in England. J
