THE TURNBULL LIBRARY
GOVERNMENT'S SCHEME OF ADMINISTRATION. (PEESS ASSOCIATION TE LEO BAM.) WELLINGTON, July 16. Cabinet to-day approved of the acceptance by tlie Government of the valuable historical library left to the State by the late Mr A. H. Turnbull. Tho Hon. G. W. Russell, in a statement this evening, said the donor had stipulated that the management of tho institution was to be based on the administration of the British Museum and the Mitchell Library in Sydney. The value of the library was estimated at £50,000, but many of the documents in the collection would probably be regarded as priceless, for there were no duplicates in existence. The Government had decided to purchase the building in which tho library was now housed. It was four storeys high, and absolutely fireproof. Cabinet approved of the proposal that the collection should bo named tho Turnbull Library. It will bo directly controlled by tho Governmont chief librarian, Mr Charles Wilson, and tho general management will be under tho supervision of tho Science and Art Board, of which the Minister of Internal Affairs is chairman.
