RACING AND TROTTING NOTES. (Bt "Looker-ON.") P. T. . Hogan, with ♦Zarkoma and Fleetham, and L. Hagerty, with Tip Up and Naupata, are due at Riccarton from "Wellington. this morning. Pursefiller was decidedly sore when she raced at Irentham, and must be looked upon as a doubtful at Riccarton. ' The local jumpers engaged at the South Canterbury Hunt Meeting were not schooled last week, owing to a shortage of riders. They are all jump this .week. Kautuku,- the dam of Impediment, was found dead in her paddock a few days ago. A number of North Island J lO /® 68 .? 11 " caged at the Grand National Meeting are due to arrive at Riccarton about the end of the month. In the event of Mr E. S. Luttrell sending any of liis two-year-olds over to Sydney they will leave next month..
(By "Searchlight.") A payment is due to-day for the Ashburton Trotting Club's New Zealand Sapling Stakes. Nominations close to-morrow, at 8 p.m., for the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club's August Meeting. Annie Dillon and Huon Patch have been recommissioned by B. Jarden. The New Zealand Trotting Cup winner, Adelaide Direct, was responsible for a pleasing work out over two miles on Saturday at New Brighton. Her mission at the Metropolitan August Meeting will, be the National Cup. j Mr A. J. Thtton, the weli-known North Canterbury trotting enthusiast, , has passed for active service. ! The' three-year-old pacer, Albert Cling, is now enjoying a spell, and will not be asked to sport silk until late m the spring. The Oamaru mentor J. Henderson, has recently, taken in hand a rising tnree-year-old brother to the New Zealand Derby winner. The New Brighton trainer, R. Reay, has been a regular attendant of late on the local track with Tamarisk and Bidens, and both are thriving on the tasks - that have been allotted them. They will be raced at Addington next month. C. Jamee has taken delivery of the well-known trotter, Paul Huon. E. J. Munro, who for many years past has figured prominently in the amateur division of the light'harness sport, has 'decided in future to compete m open comuany, and should be quite capable I of holding his own with the best of them.
A very.full report of the Trotting Conference appears in the _ Weekly Press," published this morning, and there is editorial comment upon some of the changes in the rules. In addition "Wayfarer" has, very interesting notes upon ".the Conference in his ioday and Yesterday." It is understood that Mr P. Selig, 'president of the New Zealand Trotting Association, has not yet arrived at a decision regarding the unanimous wish ot the recent Conference that he should allow himself to be nominated for election to the Association for the coming year. A deputation of well-known trotting enthusiasts waited upon .Mr Selig yesterday in reference to the position, and he has decided to give his answer to-day.
