The general manager of tho Bank of New Zealand, Limited, has received a cablo message from the London Board advising him that the annual meeting of the bank will be held in London on July 24th, when it is proposed to declare a dividend of 6 per cent, for the half-year, and a bonus to shareholders of 1 per cent, on paid-up capital, equalling 13 per cent, for the year ended March 31st last. The sum of £10,000 has been allocated to tho reduction of the bank .premises account, and £15,000 added tothe reserve, which will then stand at £703,000. The sum of £45,550 has been carried forward. BANKING INTERESTS. Nothing is known locally of tho rumours which, according to a recent cable, are reported to be current in London, to the effect that certain English banks are about to. ao- v quire large interests in banko in the oversea Dominions, to foster trade aitcr the war. The first indication that either of tho two New Zealand banks were concerned in the project would be a distinct hardening n shares, and this has not taken place. Possibly tho rumours eo vaguely quoted do not refer to Australasian banks at all. The process, however, still goes on, and Saturday's cables told of "the amalgamation of Barclay's Bank with tho London and Provincial and the London and South-Western Banks. Barclay's was founded in 1896, with a subscribed capital of £12,679,440, of which I £4,534,443 was paid 'np. Its reserve fund in 1916,5t00d at £1,200,000. Tho London and Provincial dates from 1864. Its caprtal e two millions, a millon being paid up, and its reserve fund in 1918 was £1,650,000.
