MAGISTRATE'S COURT. Before Mr P. Knights, at the Lyttelton Magistrate's Court on Saturday morning, a first offender was convictod and fined sa, CARD MATCH. On Saturday evening a card match irts played between the members of the Lyttel* ton Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Lyttelton railway employees, the former winning by two games. Refreshments were provided' by the Brigade. FAREWELL .SOCIAL. A well-attended social and dance was held on Saturday evening in the Excelsior Hall, Lyttelton, to farewell Gunner Gordon Cain, who is on final leave. The Mayor (Mr W. T. Lester) presented the departing eoldier, on behalf of his friends, with a money belt »cd' a pocket wallet. THE PICTURES. At Saturday's sessions in tlie. Harbour • Light Picture Theatro a spccial programme, was presented. It included an interesting World drama, "The Web of Desire," starring Ethel Clayton. "Fatty" Arbucklo in "Tin Type Tangle," and a war film "The Kid from with a descriptivo recitation, by; , Mr Barrie Mareohel and Bongs by . Mr Roy Holiia, of Lyttelton. This . programme will be repeated to-night. Emmy Wehlen will reappear to-morrow in' an exciting Metro, society picture, "The Trail of the Shadow," and ' another instalment of the serial film' ' j "Who is No; 1?" will be screened, j PATRIOTIC CONCERT. i The Pom- Pom Pierrots visited Lyttelton |on Saturday evening and gave a concert in _tho Oddfellows' Hall, under the the Lyttelton branch of the Lady Liverpool.' Fund. The entertainment was a . complete i success, the large 1 audience thoroughly enjoying the well-selected items ' presented -by the troupe. During, tho evening the - Mayor of Lyttelton introduced Mrs H. Holland; Mayoress of Christohurch, who, in a .brief address, said that Lyttelton generally,,.and tho 'Lyttelton Ladies' Swimming CI A par- ' ticularly, was to be heartily thanked for ' their generous assistance to -the Fund. 'The Canterbury Centre, including Nelson, Marlborough, and , AVeetland were sending >7500 ■ parcels to the front every month.
