CURISTCHUKCH CENTRE. Tho annual meeting of the Chrietohurch Centre of the iNtw Zealand Bowling Aesoeiation was held last night. Hx A. H. Bourn (president) being in the oiuur. Tho annua] report of tho executive dealt briefly with tie operations of tho past season. The subjects touched upon were the Saturday inter-club matches, the ohampionship rinks, the Madison singles, the Centre challenge hedges, and Waieon Shield, and the Easter tournament. The profits from the tournament, £56 10s, were distributed between the Y.M.C.A. and Salvation Army AVar Funds. During the year th© Centre took up six £10 War JX>an bonds, drawing the money from the Post Office Savings Bank for the purpose. Tim number of clubs remained at 22, Sunnyside Club encoding and Beckeaham affiliating. Tho membership stood at 1074, a 9 against 1041 last season. The finances of the Centre continued in a healthy state, there being a credit balance of £119 12s 3d, .as against £153 3e 6d last year. The investment in War Ixjana more than accounted for the deficiency. The president moved the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, and congratulated the Centre on the satisfactory position of the jamc, Though interesting the pact seaeon had not had the "swing," which it would have bad under other than war conditions, but this was only to be expected. Ho was glad to see that the membership still grew, wliick proved the popularity of the game. The bal-ance-sheet was very satisfactory,, and it was pleasing to see that all expense® had been kept to a minimum. Tlie Ccntro had done all it could towards patriotic funds. Dr. Gassett seconded the motion, which was carried.
The olectioTi of officers resulted as follows: —President. Mr E. E. Daniels; vice-presi-dent, Mr E. H. Hendeison; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr D. E. Wood (re-elected); hon. auditor, Mr H. Killner; delegates ;is Executive Committee, Messrs G. W. C. Smithoon, and J. Brown.
Tho following were .nominated for the n omininn Counc-'l •—Vicon resident, Mr E. E. Summers; councillors, Hessre A. Selwyn Bruce and M. P. Barnett.
A discussion ensued on the best method of conducting inter-club matches for the next season. It was first resolved that euch competition should be held, and then Mr C. Allison moved : "That is be a recommendation to tho executive to re-establish the system in voguo some years back, and play rinks in a ratio to tho mtmorical strength of the clubs."
Mr E. Cheg-win moved as an amendment: 'That only four links from each club should be entered for the premier competitions, and {hat the remainder of the members play inter-club matches."
Mr J. Clark gav© notice that }ii 3 would move a further amendment: "That the executive draw -up plana to be submitted to the clube and to a subsequent meeting of delegates."
On being put, Mr Chcgivin's amendoio-it was lost.
Mr Clark's amendment was then carried without dissent.
On Mr Barnett's suggestion, it wns decided to recommend the incoming executive to arrange for an official opening day on on© £rcen to inaugurate the season.
Mr Allison suggested that sorao alteration should bo made in the existing . rulo for "throwing tbo jack." This, in the opinion of many experienced players, would lead to. more equal conditions in tho game. It was suggested that each side should throw the jack alternately.
It was further eusKested that the Centre procure ;i "digeito " to eterilizo the soil used for top-dressing .gTcens. In the digester the soil would be heat-treated for .the destruction of week seeds, and tho treated soil could bo eold to clube.
