AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION.
MEETING OF COUNCIL.
Tho Council of the Canterbury Automobil® Association met last night, Mr W. H. Tis-da-11. the president, being in the chair. The statements of reoeipts and expenditure showed reoeipts £273 18s, expenditure £131 4s 2d, credit balance £139.13s 10d.
The secretary reported that tha Waimairi County Council was prepared to lay down a stretch of up-to-dalo road on the North road, on the advice of the Automobile Association. It was decided to thank the Council for its offer.
The cieik to the, Coldstream Boad Board drew attention to a signpost at the Hinds crossing, which it was considered was likely to give misleading information if the bridgo over the Bangitata at Ealing materialised. Ihe secretary reported that the matter was being attended to.
The City Council wrote stating {hat the suggestions regarding certain road crossing had been referred to the Works Committee. The Works Committee had d died to move the drirL;in; trough opposite Banger's garage in Gloucester street. It was decided to een i a. letter of thanks to the City Council for the attention paid to the Association a requests.
' Colonel E. A. Chaffey wroto undertaking to hand back the Mitchell car belonging to the Association in as good order as porsible commensurate with the work done and tha length of th-> war. This undertaking was considered satisfactory.
The Defence Department wroto etalin? that petrol would be issued to motorists who were about to transport sick and wounded returned soldiers.
The resignation of Mr J. G. Stephens was accepted with regret The following new members were elected: —J. P. Christopherson, G. 6. Aitken, A. R<"eoe, D. Baxter, J. 8. Baxter, and J„ M. Stewart.
Mr A. S. Clarkson reported that during- the month the soldiers' car had mado 16 trips, carrying 81 men and travelling 304 miles. On Mr Clarkson's motion, it was decided to appoint a committee to approach tho Efficiency Board with reference to the supp!i?o of motor spirit required by th? A~socialion. Messrs F. W. Johnston, A, McKellar, the president, and the mover were elected aa the committee.
SYDENHAM; METHODIST
CHURCH.
» At the quarterly meeting of the Sydenham Methodist Circuit the Bev. W. Beckett presided. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance. The reports of the Sunday School and Christian Endeavour §pcieti?a were ca'islactory. It was agreed to support the Christchurch Methodist ministers in regard to the appointment of a visiting hospital chaplain. The chairman and Sister Emily were appointed delegates to tho No-license Convention. Mo6Bi)s Vi. Wells and Hammett were appointed delegates to the proposed Council of Churches. The appeal for suncort for the Military Chaplains' Fund met *ilh a heart/ response, £6 being subscribed in th» loom. Messrs Brookes and Bartlett were thanked for their services in conducting the evening meetiags at Lower Hi?h street. Mr and Mrs Johnston were thanked for. thoir eervires whilst acting as poor stewards, and Mrs ■ Fenny was appointed to the position.
