THE KING.

PRAISE FOR THE DOMINIONS

(By Cable.—Press Association,—Copyright.)

(neuter's Telegrams.)

LONDON, July 6. The King, replying to the Lord Mayor's silver wedding address at the Guildhall, said: — "I have seen with joyful gratitude the wholehearted response to the call to duty which reverberated throughout the Empire. In the presence of distinguished representatives of the Dominions, tne Colonies,. and the Empire of India, I warmly acclaim the noble, self-sacrificing spirit of our brothers across the seas, who have given their best in our united defence of liberty and right." The King declared the impossibility of adequately paying tribute to the deeds of the Navy, Army, Air Forces, and Mercantile Services. Ho specially mentioned the troops in East Africa. Mesopotamia, Palestine, and the other distant theatres, who experienced most trying times. Ho paid a tribute to the spirit <)f mutual concession animating employers and workers., and expressed the belief that in the furnace of war new links of understanding and sympathy were being forged between man and man. class and class, who were coming to recognise as never before that we were all members of one community, and that the welfare of all was interdependent!

Continuing, King George said: — "When peace oomes, may the bonds of Empire be strengthened in charactor by the fiei-y trial, and knit more closely by the memory of common efforts and common sacrifices."
