COUNTY COUNCILS.
WAIMAIRI
The monthly meeting of the Waimairi County Council was held yesterday, Mr S. A. Staples presiding. The engineer's report, which was adopted, stated that the wet weather had necessitated eomo of tho county work being postponed. A deputation from Inwood road residents waited on the Council, and %«ked if it could see its way to place ecoria on-15 chains of the road which badly needed it. The deputation also asked that oertain trees overhanging parts of tho road should be cut back, as their shade damaged tho thoroughfare.
Tho Council, after hearing the deputation, decided to put ecoria on 10 chains of the road, on condition that scrub was carted by members of the deputation, who _ volunteered to do it. It was decided to instruct tho owners of tho offending trees to cut them (back.
On Mr Herv<jy's motion, it was decided that the collection of refuse in tho Fendalton riding should be done on a different system. In futiue the collection would be made fortnightly at a charge of 2a 6d a quarter, payable in advance. The new system comes into force on August Ist. Messrs Johnston, Mills, and Joyco wrote on behalf of Mr W. M. Reynolds, holding the Council responsible for an accident which had occurred to him owing to the alleged negligenoo of tho Council's employees.
Tho letter wjts received, the Council repudiating any liability. The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wrote,- asking the Council to form the footpath and- channel fronting the hospital in Armagh street.
It was agreed that the Council would, do the work provided the Hospital Board paid the cost.
The Riccarton-Sookburn Burgesses' Association complained that the Council's town office being 'closed at midday was an inconvenience to ratepayer.
The chairman said that instructions had been given to keep tho office open half an hour longer at midday.
Tho Harowcod road School Committee wrote, asking for a donation towards the new school grounds. It was decided to vote £23.
Tho Riccarton Borough Council complained oi tho inadequate lighting of the Riccarton load from the Hospital corner to Dcane'a road. The matter wire referred to the Lighting Committed, with power to act. Dr. Chesaon forwarded complaints regarding insanitary epots in Quoen&berry street and Idris road. Tho matter was referred to the engineer with power to act. <
It was decided to grant the use of the Council's board-room for any meetings in connexion with the Copper Trail for the Lady Liverpool Trench Comforta Fund. All the councillors volunteered to assist in the or* ganuation of the proposed Copper Trail. It was decided to endorse a resolution for* warded by the Whangarei County Council, suggesting that lands purchased for the settlement of eoHiers should first be reported on bjr local county council experts. It was decided to write to the Commissioner of Crown Lands on tho subject.
