WOMEN'S RED CROSS BRANCH.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The women's branch of tho Canterbury Red Cross Contra met yesterday, Mra iioylo . presiding over a good attendance. The various monthly departmental reports were re'oeived* For tho Packing Department Mrs Wigram reported that tho following 1 had been despatched : —24 cases, valued at £587, to Now Zealajid Red Cross, Southampton; 12 cases, valuod at £222, from Timaru to Southampton; '6 cases (£282) to Mesopotamia; 30 cases (£385) to Mesopotamia from Timaru; 1 case (£18) to a hospital ship; and goods valued at £111 to local hospitals, making a total of 73 cases, valued at £1605. The Bandage and City Departments reported a good month's work. The report of tho Sales Department showed sale 3 of wool to have realised £284 2s 3d, and of material £1144 las od, making a total of £1423 7a Bd. The Receiving Department reported having received 19,173 articles during the month. For the Comforts Department Mrs Treleaven reported that the balance in hand would be considerably reduced by tho July paymentß, leaving only a small balance. Honey was etill being received in connexion with the honey appeal. The soldiers in. the various hospitals were being supplied regularly wjth comforts. In connexion with visits to hospitals, Mrs Geo. Rhodes reported that there were 58 men in the military ward of tho Christchurch Hospital, 10 men and 2 sisters in tho Sanatorium, and 10 in the Coronation Hospital. All had beon visited, and supplied with extra comforts in the way of food, clothing, etc. Mrs Early, matron of tho Aotea Convalescent Home, wrote acknoweldging gifts of comforts and garments. Captain Clifton, of the Queen Mary Hospital, also wrote acknowledging gifts from the Centre. He regretted it had been found necessary to curtail tho supply of tobacco and cigarettes. In regard to the latter, Mrs 'Boyle said that the tobacco-, shortage was responsible for the curtailment, and the committee could do nothing else. In referring to the Our Day Fund, Mr Flesher said the New Zealand Red Cro63 Committee in London would require something: like £40,000 per month for the next (six months. Canterbury's share would bo £1500 monthly. New Zealand aimed to raise £100,000 for the Our Day Fund, Canterbury's share being £22,000. •»
