NEW ZEALAND METROPOLITAN TROTTING CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of members of the ; New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club was held yesterday alternoon at the Hotel Federal. Thero was only a small attendance. The president, the Hon. C. Louisaon, is absent in Auckland, and the vioe-preeident, Mr J. H. Williams, had to leave for Akaroa before tho meeting opened. Mr J. S. Williams was voted rto the chair. j The chairman moved, and Mr F. E. Graham seoonded, the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, o summary of which has | already been published. Ha motion waa agreed to without discua81<Mr G. E. Way was reappointed auditor. There were no contests lor election to '-he various offioes, and the following were declared elected:—President, Hon. C. Mr H6ban suggested that a change ehould be made in the method of election, and that nominations for the various offices should be taken at the annual meeting, and that the election should take place then. Mr C. H. Piper said the club had grown from' small beginnings to its present very satisfactory position, and he did not thinK there was any need for change. Mr J. H. Tompkins said the present meeting was a very strong argument in favour of°Mr Hoban's suggestion. With such a largo membership, they could scarcely get a quorum, and something ehould be done to arouse the interest of members. The chairman aaid it was the first time such a thing had happened in the history of i the club. "To carry out the change suggested by Mr Hobaa would mean an alteration j of the rules, of which notice would have to be given. J Mr L. B. Hart urged the claims of the i Lady Liverpool Fund for support, and re- ! ferred to the Tramway Copper Trail which waa being organised to raise money for that fund. He said that various business house a and private individuals were giving wax : bonds as prizes for a lucky number competition in connexion with the movement, and moved that the club ehould subscribe £100 for that purpose. i The chairman said it waa customary that such matters ehould be dealt with by the committee, and he suggested that the motion j should be made » recommendation to the ! C °Mr tli Hoban. in seconding the motion pro ' forma, asked for an explanation as to why the oommittee should have power to deal with tho matter and not the general meeting; . * Tho chairmaD aaid* the committee was ilecttt) to deal with matUnk ud wa*
better acquainted with the financial pcailiVm than the general body of members. He pointed out that the club owed Messrs Luttrell Bros. .££6Bl, and had in the bank only £256t They must bo just before they could be generous.
Mr Hart then altered hie motion to be a recommendation to the committee to vote a sum of money at the discretion of tho committee to tho Lady Liverpool Copper Trail Lucky Number competition, and in that form it was carried.
tho motion of Mr Hoban, seconded by Mr Hart, a heart? vote of thanks was accorded to tho officers for their past services.
