HARBOUR BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The Lyttelton Harbour Board met vesterday. Present: Messrs A. K.ayo (chairman), T. D. Boag, H. B. Sorensen, TV. J. Walter, J. J. Graham, K. Horrell, T. A. Blackley. H. F. Nicoll, S K. Sleigh, J. Storry, G. Scott, ana Hon. E. Moore. MJS.C. Apologies were made for Dr. H. T. J. Thacker, M.P., and Mr E. J. Howard. The Harbour Improvement Committee recommended the adoption of the treasurer's memorandum of June sto, that a surcharge of 10 per cent, be ma-le on all accounts. The report ■was adopted. The sub-committee on office accommodation recommended the acceptance of the offer of the Trannvavs Board, subject to the tenancy being seven,- instead of ten, years. The report was agreed to. _ The Sailors' Home Committee reported that during June the average number of men who staved at the home was 12: maximum 15, minimum 11. The number who stayed at the homo! fnr the half-year ended .Tune 30th was 72. The report was adopted. The chairman stated that Dr. Thacker had informed him that he wouid not be in the Dominion in time to attend the harbours conference. It wn s decided to appoint Mr Storry «s delegate. It was decided to adopt the principle of financial assistance to the Board's employees called up for active sen-ice as suggested by the secretary. This provided for the Board making up the difference between military pay and allowances and the wages paid by the Board. A letter from Mr Joshua Little, regarding the opening up of the Sumner estuary, was referred to the Harbour Improvement Committee for a report-
