Tho Lincoln College concert will take place as advertised to-night, but owing to tho bad weather it will bo repeated next Wednesday for tho benefit of distant patrons. ELLESMERE. The National Mortgage and Agency Company sold by aucLio.ii, a lew days ago a store and quartor-aci'e section at Leeston, on behaiir of Mrs Oppenheim, to Mr Bernard Urown, at iofciO. A quarter-acre adjoining was sold privatojy to Air lii. Ji. Ilowiey, and has since been purchased by Mr V. lioi. A progressive euchre tournament, in aid or the funds of the local Rod Cross branch, was held in tho Lakeside feoldiers' Memorial Hall. The first prizes were won by Miss Carter and Mr E. Alexander, and other prizes went to Miss Hastings and Mr W. Winchester. After supper a dance was held, Mrs Campbell, Miss Alexander, and Messrs G. Nairn and W. Lambie providing the music. Good use has been made of Private A. J. McEvedy's threshing plant during his absence at the front. The tally for the recent season was 82,000 bushels. ASHBURTON. Mr John Brown, of May field, who mot with a motor accident in the Ashburton Gorge some weeks ago, has left the private hospital, Ashburton, for his home. The Executivo Committee of tho Ashburton Second Division League met on Tuesday evening. In accordance with Sir James Allen's wishes in regard to the repatriation scheme, the executive discussed certain proposals for the purpose of securing desirable farms in the Ashburton County, which, if cut up, would bo ideal for tne settlement of returned soldiers. Further information will be obtained regarding the farms: under review, and a report will be for- j warded to the Dominion Executivo.
