The Second Canterbury Military Service Board will sit in Christchurch on July 10th, 12th, and 16th.

The question of additional stooge at Lyttelton for dairy produce will come up for discussion at "to-morrow's meeting of the Lyttelton Harbour Board.

The funeral of the late Trooper Norman John Lester, late of the C.Y.C. (Main Body), who died after a l°ng illness, took placo yesterday, deceased being interred in the Sydenham Cemetery. Members of the Returned Soldiers' Association actcd as pall-bearers, and as a firing party. Among the wreaths was one from the C.D.C., and this body wa3 represented by Messrs J. M. McLean and A. J. The proposal to widen street, Kendalton, a thoroughfare which at present bristles with corners dangerous to traffic, was touched on at last night's meeting of the City Council. Councillor Climie proposed that, instead of tho tram following Rhodes street, as it does at present, it would be a good idea if the track was taken right down Rossall street and round by tho river. This would cut out two bad corners, and was a perfectly feasible proposition.

The Acting-Chief Postmaster, Mr J. Rule, stated to a representative of "The Press" yesterday that the changes had not produced any marked effect so far. The money order office had certainly been more busy between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., as, of course, more work had to bo done in the reduced hours, but the letter-carriers had finished their deliveries in good time, despite the very inauspicious weather which greeted the introduction of the new system. Up to the time of speaking. no complaints had come under his notice.

In response to a request from Sir James Allen for homing pigeons for use at the front, the Canterbury Flying Pigeon Club has decided to offer 100 birds immediately, and 100 per month until, and including, January. Mr Cedric Kirklev, of Christchurch, a member of the club, has offered to go to Wellington to give tho Government any information it needs on the subject. The club's offer means that the members are willipg to give approximately half of the young birds they are breeding. This action is intended not only as war help, but also as an expression of gratitude for the free railway carriage of homing pigeons for the last 20 years. Mr R. S. Draper, of Addington, has offered Sir James all his trained birds, between 30 and 40 in number.
