DEPARTING SOLDIERS.

i Messrs Duckworth, Turner and Co.'s employees met at the Masonio Hall on Saturday night to bid farewell and make a presentation to Private- E. F. Lanyon, one of their skop-matea, who is on final leave. The function took the form of a smoke concert, and a most enjoyable evening was spent. Mr H. B. Duckworth occupied the chair and Mr P. P. Hamilton acted ao accompanist. The chairman, on behalf of the firm and employees, presented Private Lanyon with a wnstlet watch, Private Lanyon suitably responding. A lengthy musical programme was gone through, Messrs B. Edge, L. Hart P Allen, J. Arnold, J. Baxter, D. W. and J. Harrison, J. Smith, L. Badhuin J. GoodalL and F. Cummings contributing items. A most enjoyable smoko concert was heldin the Cathoac X!lub rooms on Saturday evening as a send-off to Private H. Foster of the local Telegraph Department, and a staunch supporter of the club. Mr G E Hayward presided over a large attendance,' and m presenting Private Foster with a safety razor eulogised tho many good qualities of the rccipieat and wished him Godspeed and a safe return. Advantage was also taken to welcome home *he following returned club members:—Sergeant-Major Rochfort and Privates J. Henderson, E. Fitzgerald, W ; Fiizgerald, P. Nelson, and R. Moyna. During the evening many* toasts were honoured and tho following contributed to an excellent musical programme:—Meters Dugay, Brittendon, C, Foltejell, C. Barrett, J. Hendcison, P. McNamara, J. Noonan, B. Rennell, A. McDavitt, and H. Hiscocks. A farewell was tendered in tho Town Hall, Sumner, on Friday evening to Private T. Coffey, who is down on final leave. Mr J. B. Laurenson presided. A lengthy and appropriate toast list was gone through, and the chairman presented Private Coffey with i safety razor and a belt.'
