MAGISTERIAL. (Before Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. A offender was fined 5s for drunkenness. John Alfred Smith and Hugh Miller, both charged with being helplessly drunk, were remanded for a week. CIVIL CASES. In each of the following cases judgment, with costs, was given for plaintiff by default:—W. Strange and Co., Ltd., v. Martin Condon, £3 5s 6d; J. Ballantyne and Co. v. Arthur W. Simpson, £6 Is 6d; Watsons, Ltd. v. Charles W. Badham, £o ss; Woolston Tanneries, Ltd. v. Win. McDonald, £4 lis; D. H. Swanston v. A. Candy, £3; W. B. Scott and Co. v. J. W. Comyns. £14 19s lid. A WQRKER'S CLAIM. Frederick Charles Clarke (Mr McDotigall) sued H. Hall and Sons (Mr F. W. Johnston) for £8 15s Bd, amount allegedly due for services rendered, etc. Judgment was given for defendant. JUDGMENT RESERVED. William Black (Mr F. W. Johnston) claimed the sum of £35 from John Robinson Anstey (Mr Malloy) for services rendered in connexion with the sale of some land at Riccarton to the Public Works Department. The defence was that the property in question had really been under offer to the Public Works Department since-1913. and when the Department was ready to take the place it did so. Decision was reserved. NON-SUITED. F. D. Kesteven (Mr Thomas) claimed tj recover from Thomas A. Miller (Mr Acland) the sum of £120, being the amount of a promissory not© made and given by the defendant in favour of the plaintiff. Counsel for the plaintiff stated that defendant, as security, had given tm alleged mortgage over a property of which defendant was not the registered • owner. The result was that the plaintiff had no security at all for jus loan. Defendant had refused to sign an instrument giving plaintiff an assignment on the defendant's interest' in the land. Plaintiff was nonsuited on the ground that the money claimed was not due.
