Mrs Algar Williams has returned from a visit to the North Island. Mr and Mrs H. J. C. Harper have returned to Ashburton. after a shore stay in Christchurch. M.'ss Crawshaw (Dunedin) is staying at the Clarendon. Mrs and Miss Elworthy are staying at the Hydro Grand, Timaru. Mr and Mis J. C. Clarkson, and Misses Brenda and Wanda Clarkson, motored to Timaru on Friday, ana ire staving at tho Hydro Grand. Mr and Mrs Godfrey Hall returned to Hororata on Saturday after several days in town. Miss E. M. G. Thorncroft (Australia) is among the guests at the United service. Mrs R. E. Alexander (Lincoln) is visiting Timaru. A jolly little dance, arranged by a committee comprising Miss Billie Bean, Miss Myra Marquet, Miss Adeline Dixon, and Messrs Frank Harris, Marquet, and W. McClurn, took place at the Henrietta on Saturday night. About fifty Young people we're present. _ Ihe cliaperone was Mrs Maurice Louisson, Those present included: Misses _Edith Midgley. The marriage took placo at Wellington last week of Private J. H. Ballin, eldest son of Mr and Mrs B. Balliu, Mcrivalc, to Miss Cohen, daughter of tho late Mr Henry Cohen, of Wellington. The Rev. H. Van Staveren performed the ceremony. Among those present wore Mr and Mrs B. Ballin and their four daughters, Mcsdames J5. Boulton, X. Wilkes, F. Ballin, and H. Caro.

FANCY DRESS BALL AT DORIE. . At tho Ardamino tiall, Dorie, ou Friday nignt, a fancy uress bail was liejM in aid of the Prisoners of War Fund, Tho nigftt was stormy, but in spite of tho weather there was a large garnering, Rakaia, Chertsey, and Pendarves being well represented. Tlie Gipsy Company of entertainers from Rakaia provided a concert before tne cianco, and were vorv well recoived. Tho judges had difficulty in deciding the winners of the best costumes. The lady's prize was decided between Mrs Haydock (Witch) and Miss Halliday (Peace), by lot, the former proving the winner. The men's prize was won by Mr Ct. Harrison (Country Curate). The prizes were presented by Miss Ritchie and Mr H. Thompson. Mr W. Ilankin, who provided most of- the music, was accorded an enthusiastic vote of thanks. Mr H.' Thompson acted as M.C. Ground Rice and Pineapple Pudding. —Required: Half a pint of milk, half a pint of water, half a pint of pineapple syrup, of ground rice, four tablespoonfuls of tinned pineapple in small cubes, two tablespoonfuls of chopped nuts. Put the milk an<l water into a saucepan, heat until boiling. Mix the ground rice thiniy and smoothly with a little cold water. Pour it into the milk, and stir Miboiling and quite thick. Now add tlw pineapple svrup; if this is added at first, it may curdle the milk. Stir in the cubes of pineapple, and pour afi into a greased pic-dish. Shake the nuts over the top .and bake till the latter aro lightly browned. Then! serve at once.
