A SEAMAN'S OFFENCE. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, March 2'2. VviJliain J)unnc, the quartermaster of a certain steamer, was charged at the Magistrate's Court with breaches of the "War Itegnlations, by leaving the ship when he should have remained at rfce gangwav. The offences alleged had taken place both at Timarn and Lytlelton. Tiie master and chief off 1 - c-pr gave evidence that Dunne left the gangway without leavo ;<n one occasion. and a person without a pass t>as S emitted tc uoard the r.hip whilst; 'uiitiO vv.is on duty at the gangway. The Magistrate, Mr McCarthy, said that this was not an ordinary case of failure to do duty. Accused had flatly refused to obey orders. On one charge Dunne was convicted and sentenced to six months' imprisonment, and ou the other he was convicted and Uischarged.
