The Secretary of Marine at Wellingtion advises shipmasters that the Jackson's Head light is reported to bo extinguished, but will bo relighted this morning, weather permitting. Captain Peter Lang, who was killed as the result of an accident in the Auckland district on Wednesday, was born in Glasgow 70 years ago, and was well known in Dunedin in shipping and other circles. For many years Ke was master of a number of schooners engaged in carrying timber between Auckland and Dunedin, including the Isabella Anderson, of which ho was the owner, and which was eventually wrocketl at Raglan. About 15 years ago he left the sea, and bccamo associated with the Whangape Timber Company, and he was <>n one of his periodical visits there from Dunedin when he met his death. The particulars of the fatal accident, further than that ' Captain Lang was in' the bush at the time inspecting the company's property, havo not ret come to hand. The body is to be brought to Dunedin. Captain Lang's widow •resides in Mornington. He ,also leaves a son (Mr W. Lang) and two daughters, one of whom is married.
News received from Copenhagen state® that the wooden sailing vessel Constance is 1!U years old. She has seen ten Danish kings come and go, and will aoon celebrate, her 200 th anniversary of service. The Dutch Bailing fleet, despite the ravages of the submarine, still has 1G wooden veeaels each more than 100 years old. These vessols average 414 registered tons. In March, 1916, there wore only four of theso Teasels mors than 1000 tons, but purchases abroad since that time have now increased the number of wnodon vessels to 25 which are over 1000 tons "
