FIRE IN WAIHI MINE.
(PBESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAMS.) WAIHI, March 21. An outbreak of fire occurred Last evening in No. 9 (plan) level, "V\ aihi mine. The timbers were particularly dry, and the fire spread rapidly along the level, and up two timbered rises m the vicinity. The fixe was checked within a few hours of the outbreak. The men on shift fought the fare fallantlv throughout the night. Ihe fire was confined to a small area, una tvas not regarded as serious. oue °* the horses underground was snttocateu. Owing to the dense smoke spreading throughout tie workings, work in the mine has been temporarily suspended. AUCKLAjND, 21. The office of the Waihi Company is advised that the fire in the mine is well under control.
