THE WEATHER.
MAGNETIC OBSERVATORY. Meteorological observations taken at. 9.30 a.m. and 5 p.m. March 20th:— I
The readings taken at the Ashburton Domain weather station at' 9 a.m. yesterday were:—Barometer,' 29.7; thermometer, max. 58, min. 47; rain,' 0.94 in. SUMMARY AND FORECAST. The centre of a cyclone has passed southeast of New Zealand, and-westerly to southerly. gales have ruled. Heavy rain has fallen in the South Island, with enow on tho higher levels, and conditions are still unsettled generally. Present indications ore for high southerly winds and cold, squally weather, with heavy rain and rivers rising in many parts of the country, and the barometer rising everywhere.
