The council of the Canterbury Acclimatisation Society met last night, i3r. C. Mor-ton-Anderson presiding. The Auckland (Society wrote strongly opposing the use of cylinders. The Mangonui Society wrote expressing the opinion that the use of cylinders stiould be regulated by each Society. Both letters wero referred to the Cylinder Committee. The Springs County Council wrote that it was not aware that it had authority to regulate the speed of motor boats on the river Solwvn. —.Received. The South Canterbury Society wrote urging that legislation should bo promoted to prevent dogs acti guns being taken" within the boundaries of sanctuaries.—Referred to the executive. The curator reported that the races and ponds had been cleaned; CS etock rainbow tish had been liberated in the Avon, and 900 two-year-old rainbow to the ponds for stock. The Society wrote on the subject of salmon fishing in the Waitaki, and urged that there should be a conference of South Island societies on the question. It was stated that many in search of salmon fishing had to go away disappointed. Mr E. F. moved that a reply he sent that the North Canterbury Society would initiate a conference or attend one. He Mid that at present the Waitaki waa dirty, and owing to it» liability to floods, there was no certainty about the run of ecimon. Mr J. Sutherland, who 6CCo.ided the motion, said the opinion of some anglers was that the ealmou was spoiling the trout fishing in the Waitaki. After discussion, the motion was a Toed to. Mr M. H.
