SUMNER ELECTRIC LIGHTING.
TO THE EDITOR OS" "THE rBKSS." Sir,—l am one of those who desire to sco this great improvement come to Sumner at the earliest possible moment, so that I hope the question will not lesolve itself into a kind of -'you ro another" duet between the Mayor or Sumner and 'the City Electrical Engineer. Mr Barr impressed upon the members of the Sumner Burgesses' Association his conviction that it would not be possible to gc-t the light until so.nie years after the war, on account of the* scarcity of material. Mr Stark 6eems to say that lie has the material and can reticulate the borough at once, and supplv current at city prices. Mr Barr says he will consult some Government officials in Wellington. He might as well consult his grandmother. It appears to me that the common-sense procedure would be for the Sumner Borough Council to ask the Christchurch City Council if it is able to do the work and "deliver the goods, wi™ a renuest for an offer of terms. If the reply is that they can do so, then it will be a simple matter to submit the proposal to a vote of the ratepayers, l see no valid reason why we should not have electric light quickly and cheaply.
