WATER SUPPLY.
TVAIMAKAEIKI-ASHLET BOARD. The last ordinary meeting of the Wai-makariri-Ashley 'Water Supply Board was attended by tho chairman (Mr Dixon) and ull tho members. The surveyor's report, which was approved, stated that during the previous 28 days the daily average depth of water on 6ill of intake at Brown's Bock Headworks, had been 3ft Gin, and during tho Game period the daily average depth of water passing the tlume at block Cutting had uteu aft Uiiu, giving an sample supply to the whole district. "Ptactically," continued the report, "there has not been any alteration in the position of the river at the lieadworks, the main stream atill being south ot the intake. it would not take much work to bring more water round by the north by the gates when circumstances permitted, providcu a team were, available. Xho headrace is in good order, excepting the great growvh of vegetation on sides ol race, and me iormation oi' some silt banks in the race. These could easily be removed by sluicing, if the Board's team was available. Other necessary works aro hold up for want of teams and labour. Perhaps trie latter may be soon available, as the harvest is coming towards an end. Great difficulty is experienced in getting water through the ema.'ler races, owing to want of cleaning by ratepayers, on account of harvesting and shortage of labour, but it is to be hojied more attention will bo given to this important matter in the immediate future. In consequence, the Cust alternative intake has been brought into requisition to ensure a supply to the Fcrnside and Kangiora district." It was uqauiwously resolved that all outstanding rates and accounts be sued for if not paid before March 2oth, Eegarding a complaint froru the Kangiora County Council, in the matter of the alteration of Smith s raco on to road at Cust, it was dccided to reply that the matter would receive attention as soon aa possible. An application from Mr Ma the we, Kangiora, to convert an old culvert into a ford and bridge a race, was agreed to, on con-' diiiou that all work bo done to the satisfaction of the ranger and the surveyor. It was resolved to test the Fernside School bath, as to its being waterproof after repairs and improvements. Mr "VVnyland gave notice that ot next meeting he would move, "That, in all ctsca in which the configuration of the ground on sections not exceeding 5 acres lcr.dcrs Hits cleaning of the water-race thereon a hardship to the occupier or owner, the Board may its discretion in regard to assisting in the cleaning thereof." ]t was resolved to invite applications for a permanent teamster.
