THE LATE MR JOHN REDMOND.
BISHOP BRODIE'S TRIBUTE.
At the St. Patrick's Day concert in the Theatre Royal last night, his Lordship Bishop Brodie said he had been asked to make reference to a great name in the history of Ireland—the name of the late John Edward Redmond. His name and his death brought them back to the thought of those great Irishmen who had worked for the liberation of Ireland. Ihe work of liberation had been started by Daniel who had advocated at all times peaceful and constitutional agitation. He had not succeeded in his efforts, but his mantle had fallen upon Chas. Stewart Parneil and upon his death upon John Redmond. John Redmond had now goni» and his task also was not achievedIreland had not vet got Home Rul»' but he thought that a case had been put forth by these great men Thich would win for Ireland that measure of justice which was her due. John Red mono had given his life for his coun try. It was sad to think that lie might have ocen misunderstood uy some, but whatever people's opinion's were they must give him tho crcdit of having none but high and noble motives and for working for the best interests of his country. Major Wm~ Redmond had died on the fields of Franco, and John Redmond bad died a broken-hearted man, his life having been given for the cause of Irelau-j! "This war has seen" the grave of manv reputations. Many may not ha/o approved of John Redmond's actions but the time will come when his work will be seen in its true light, and it will bo realised that he was a true patriot and friend of Ireland."
