WALTHAM SCHOOL COMMITTEE. At a meeting of the TTa.!tli&m School committee, the headmaster's report stated that the average attendance for ho P&st inonlh wee 649, witi a roll number of G94. The Education Board advised that Miss B. Smith and Mr H. A. Saunders had been appointed pupil teachers, and Mies V. Simcork probationer. Meedames Wilson and Bosley. and Mr "Watkins were appointed a Visiting Committee.

rHILLIPSTOWX KINDERGARTEN. The monthly meeting of the committee of tie Phillipstosrn Kindergarten was held on Tuced.vy, Mrs Williams presiding. The headmistress (Miss "Willis) reported that tho rol. number was 65, and the average attendance 52. The treasurer's report for the mon-h showed echool subscriptions £3 Is 6d, and sale of goods l(te, making a total of £3 lis 6d. Mesdameft Bum and Glen were appointed a Visiting Committee. W.C.T.U. The fortnightly meeting of the W.C.T.U. waa .held on Wednesday. Mrs McKec presiding. The proceeds of the sale reoentlv held by tho Union in aid of the Lady Liverpool and Red Cross funds were -reported to he £25. Arrangements were made for educational meetings to be held in tho outskirts of tho city during the autumn and winter months. It was decided to hold a fruitpreserving bee at the booth at tho Show Grounds next week. A vote of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Mrs Greer.

WEST SCHOOL. ! At the monthly meeting of the West Christchuroli District High School Committee, the Rev. F. Rule expressed the pleasure of the committee at the return of the chairman (Dr. Chilton), and his reoovcry from "illness. It was decided to v/ritc to the Board on the subject of making the school a centre for instruction in home science. The head, master reported that, in tho primary department, the average roll numbers were: —Boys, 358.5: girls, 331, with average attendances respectively of 333.6 and 309.7. WAIMAIRI A XT) "WEST BRIGHTON BUHGESSES 1 ASSOCIATION. | At a meeting of tho Waimairi and West Brighton Burgosees' Association it was agreed that' a deputation, consisting: of Messrs Johari6en, Curtis, Whatman, Blank, O'Neill, and Poison, wait on tho New Brighton Borough Council and present a petition for the formation of Beach road; also that a deputation, consisting of Messrs Blank, Johansen, O'Neill, Curtis, Bathurst, 11. I'xee, Florence, Good, and F. FTec, wait on tho North Brighton BurKe66es' Association and ask for their co-opera-tion in getting the road formed. Tho ecorotary was instructed to write to the New Brighton Borough Council urging it to push on with the work of forming the Esplajiadc road; also to the Waimairi County Council drawing attention to dangerous corners, and tho tinsatiafactory state of several roads. It was decided to hold a combined meeting of the parents of. children and residents of North Beach to urge the Education. Board to erect an np-to-dut© school, also invito members of the Education Board to be present. Mr Florence stated that ho had formed seven chains of RacecouiE© road beyond tho present metalled road, and if the Waimairi County -would provide the metal bp would spread it himself.

SUMNER SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The Sumner School commTUcc mot on Wednesday. Present—Mr D. Tjumsden (chairman), Meedames Fountain-Barber, -W. G. Itoberts, Isaac Wilson, Messrs G. Alexander, C. Benjamin, W. McKenzie, end G. Newman. The headmaster reported that the present roll number was 281, with an average attendance of 255. Correspondence -was received from the Education Board, stating that the Chief Inspector would report on the need for more accommodation. After considerable discussion, the committee passed a resolution tailing tho strongest exception to tho introduction of tho old typo of desk and form as a means of increasing tho seating capacity of tho school. The chairman stated that the school had obtained fifth place in the first grade for work done in the school gardens. It was resolved to congratulate tho staff and scholars on the excellent re«ult obtained. Tho treasurer reported that tiie school picnic account showed a email .credit balance. The Works Committee reported on tho Btatc of tho fences, and it was decided to liaxe ono of the trees removed. Tho secretary was instructed to make suitablo •arrangements with tho Grand Picture Company for further cntertainmentsi in aid of ground funds. It was decided that Mr R. Nairn bo invited to give one of hi 9 popular lectures in the Town Hall. The question of securing winter fuel waa left to "tho Works Committee. It waa decided to send a full report on the increased attcnclar.ce, giving tho figure© for 7 years, to the Chief Inspector. Ail offer was received from tho Sumner Brass Band to assist at any time during th.© season in the interests of the school funds.
