AMURI EWE FAIR.
RECORD PRICES, The annual ewe fair was held at tho Amuri saleyards, Culverden, yesterday, when the entries were approximately 13,610 half and three-quarter-bred ewes, 1094 merino ewes, 2* 60 lambs, and 928 total 18,393. There was a largo attendance, including a few farmers from outside the district. The sheep were in better condition than they, have been seen for several years past, owing to the abundance of feed, and the young sheep wero better grown. Ihere was keen competition for ewes, especially for all the better class of lia fbreds and three-quarterbreds, and the prices realised were higher than over recorded hitherto at this sale. A number of lines went over 40s. The market- was topped and a new record ostablished bv the sal© of the Kaiwara draft of two-tooth halfbred ewes, which made the exceptional price of 525, the buyer being-Mr \V. Davison, or Culverden. The Leslie Hills four-tooth halfbreds and Mr J. K. Foirester s two-tooth halfbreds made 4/s, the buver in each case being Mr G. >>. lv. Osborne, of Doyleston. The slder classes of ewes also sold well, as did the few merinos and halfbred ewe lambs were in good demand. Several lines of ewes were bought for South Canterbury. The range of prices was: Best twotootli halfbred ewes 42s 6d to_ 525, others 32s to 40s, four-tooths 35s to 445. six-tooths 36s to 445, four and five-year-olds 29s 9d to 42s 6d. soundmouth 20s 3d to 355, two-tooth three- j quarterbred ewes 37s to 40s, four and , six-tooths 35s to 38s 6d, eight-tooths j 29s to 395, merino wethers 12s to Jos, j halfbred wethers 24s 6d to 26s Cd, merino wethers 16s, half and threequarterbred ewe lambs 265. 3d to 32s 6d, wether lambs 17s 9d to 23s 6d. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. sold for Captain L. R. C. Macfarlane, 179 two-tooth haifbred ewes at 41s 3d, 292 four-tooths at 43s 9d, 250 six-tooths at 41s; estate late "Walter Macfarlane, 150 two-tooth halfbred ewes at 525; W. Davison, 187 sound-mouth halfbred ewes at 325; W. : J.
