the Director. It was left to the Director to arrange to obtain a supply of "water in the re-cently-acquired Henley's block or land. Lieutenant L. T. Wild Commander of the College Platoon, 13th Regiment, asked the Board if it could see its way to present some prize or trophy roi competition in the platoon. Lieutenant Wild pointed out that the College platoon obtained its fair share or the ordinary regimental prizes, but ne thought it would be an excellent thing, to giro a special platoon prize to stimulate' interest and enthusiasm. _ It was decided to vote £3 lor the prizes, the conditions to be arr-^g 0 " by Mr Deans and Lieutenant Wild. The Director asked the Board to consider the advisability of offering special prizes for the students of the first and second years who gauged the weights of pens of lambs at Addington market most correctly. Mr Clarkson had kindly oifered to provide two pens of lambs each week for competition. The Board decided to grant £3 8s for prizes, which it was suggested should take the form of medals, and it was also decided to thank Mr Clarkson for his offer. The Director reported that the average yield of wheat on the College farm was "'2B bushels Der acre, including the seconds, but thero was a very small proportion of seconds. The highest yield had been 33 bushels per acre. All the oats bad not yet been threshed, but. the yield so far averaged about 60 bushels per acre. The Italian ryegrass had proved the most profitable crop of all. It had been grazed until January, and then shut up. It had yielded 60 bushels of seed worth about l?s 6'l per bushel.
NORTHERN A. AND P. ASSOCIATION. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the committee of the Northern A. and P. Association as held at Rangiora yesterday, Mr J. D. Wyllie (president) being in the chair. An apoeal from Mr S. Booth, on behalf of the British and Foreign Sailors' Society, for financial assistjiii, was held over until the allocation of the show surplus, as was a circular soliciting support- for the Kitchener Agricultural "Scholarship Fund. "The question of tho payment of the amusement- tax on the show admission tickets was deferred for further information.
The president was appointed to represent" the association at the conference to discuss the proposal to form a Cantorburv Advancement League, and the president and vice-president (Mr R. Mcintosh) were appointed to join the deputation to the Minister of Public Works to urge the early completion of the Arthur's Pass tunnel. The balance-sheet in connexion with the patriotic show was submitted by the treasurer (Mr W. Mackenzie). It showed the receipts to have been £2142 13s lOd, including £147 15s 9d brought forward, gate money £100 lis 9d, luncheon booths £202 14s 2d, collections, stalls .and side shows £602 19s 4d, sale of surprise packets £531 14s_ sd, subscriptions £216 10s, special prizes £116 7s Gd, entries £151 2s 6d, and sundries £82 18s 7d. The expenditure amounted to £970 14s 6d, including purchases for surprise packets £285 9b, donations £36 16s 3d, special prizes £286 17s, printing and advertising £97 9s 9d, and improvements to show ground buildings £31 10s. The credit balance of £1271 19s 6d was available for allocation among various patriotic organisations. after the deduction of 20 per cent, of the profits, as the association's share.
It was decidod to allocate £250 each io the Navy League "War Fund and Y.M.C.A. Soldiers' Fund. A subcommittee, consisting of the presidentand Messrs R. Melntosli, V>. A. flanks, J. Johns, "\V. A. Kelcher, A, McTntosh, W. Stalker. S. Ryan, B. Ferguson, A. M. Carpenter. J. E. Burns, and F. Motrin, was appointed to divide the balance of £500 between the various branches of the Red Cross Society and Lady Liverpool Fund iu Rangiora and surrounding districts.
HANMER SPRINGS. A well-attended meeting was held on Monday evening for the purpose of making arrangements for running a sports meeting on Easter Monday. Captain Clifton, who occupied the chair, said the proceeds would go towards the maintenance of the golf links, which havo been found so beneficial to patients who have taken up the game. Tho local club was not in a very flourishing state financially, and as it, had engaged a professional, some assistance was required tow-ards the upkeep. An excellent programme was drawn tip, including items for soldiers, civilians, women, and children, and numerous side-shows. Tea will be served by the ladies. CULVERDEN. A meeting of the Amuri Collie Club was held at Culyerden on Saturday, Mr J. J. Gallagher in the chair. _ It was decided that the collie dog trials should be held this year as usual, and it was decided to hold a meeting to arrange dates, etc., on Saturday.
LINCOLN. At the monthly meeting of the Lincoln Red Cross Committee, votes of sympathy were passed with Miss Henlev in the loss of her mother, and with Miss Cooke in the lass of her father. The resignations of Mrs S. Pearson and Miss Henley were received with regret, as both have been energetic workers of the branch. Yotes of thanks were passed io the students of Lincoln College, who handed over their prize-money to the branch, which amounted to £25, and tj the Lincoln School Committee for the handsome donation of £40 9s lOd. being half proceeds of the flower show. KAIAPOI. The Kaiapoi District High School Committee mat on Monday evening. Present Messrs J. G. Yellowlees (chairman). Dunn, Pavitt. Smith, Col lister, Johnston. Trustnnu, Balch, and Sewell. The headmaster reported that- all the pupil teachers had been successful in passing the first section of the I) examination. The school attendances were: Primary 425, secondary 12 ; at eiacre attendances, primary 398. secondare- 12. It was decided to have a re*urn compiled of th<* amount of v.*oai used in the school for the year. The fortnightly meeting of the Ashburton Borough Council was held on Monday, the Mayor (Mr R. Galbraith) presiding. A letter was read from the Humps toad Town Board agreeing to pav £13 per annum for two years for tho services of the fire brigade. Tho Mayor was appointed to represent the Council on a deputation to urge the speedy completion of tho Otira tunnel. Hie usual grant of £20 was made to the Eighth (South Canterbury) Regimental Band. The Council decided to support the resolution of the Auckland City Council regarding the retention of Samoa. A lengthy discussion took place on the best means of improving tho condition of the roads within tho borough, and the l>e=>t means of treating the tar for asphalting purposes. Finally it was decided to refer the whole question to the Works Committee to bring up a icport.
