The statement of Sir Eric Geddes (First Lord of the Admiralty) regarding the darkening of ships., was that the enemy was often assisted by insufficient precautions as regards lights on ships. Absolutely complote darkness was essential for thoir protection. A recent cablo message stated:—Tho Admiralty attaches vital importance to the darkening of ships, as explained by Sir Eric Geddes (First Lord of the Admiralty) in his statement, and desires that the fullest possible publicity shall be given thereto by placarding and otherwise, and the protective measures prescribed immediately and implicitly carried ont. IGOTZ MENDi REFLOATED. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) (Received March 11th, 8 n.m.) COPENHAGEN, March 10. The Spanish steamer Igotz Mendi, which was captured by the German raider, the Wolf, and subsequently stranded on the coast of Denmark, has been salvaged, and is safe in the Skaw harbour. She sustained little damage. Her valuable cargo is being unloaded. GERMAN ICE-BREAKER SUNK. (Australian and N.Z. Cablo Association.) (Received March 12th, 1.5 a.m.) COPENHAGEN, March 11. Tho largo German icc-breakcr Hindenburg struck a mine south of the Aaland Islands and sank. Most of the crew were saved.
