LIFE-SAVING.

THE MILLAR CUP. The Millar Cup was competed for for the first time on Saturday under the* auspices of the New Brighton Surf Club. Thcr e were four teams entered lor the competition, and the officials were:—Umpire, Mr F. D. Keeteven; judg&s, Messrs A. Barrett arcl W. H. Benson. A good deal of interest wag taken in the event, and a fair-sized crowd was on the beach. The teani3 were as follows:— No. 1 team: Boon, Feast, Arnold, Hunt, Clemens. A. Millar, and McHarg; No. 2 team: Smith, McCarthy, Jones; Bcjt, Britton, Barker, und Harker; No. 3 team: Batchelor, Stevens, Davis, Clarkson, Grant; Sutton, and Hopkins; No. team: Cooper, Stokes, Mo a ley,Knox, Coulter, Suter, and CongreTC. An interesting competition. resulted, and the placing of the judges was as follows: — No. 3 team, SO point®, 1; No. l team, 79 points, 2; No. i teani r 76 points, 3; No. 3 team, 70 points, 4. Tho timos of the teams, which were not taken into consideration by the judges, were as follows:—No. 1 team (this team was snagged on the iron pipe), 4min 5 1-oth sec; No 2, 1 min 35sec; No. 3, lrain 53eec; No. 4, lmin 57 2-sth soc After the competition the cup was presented "by Mr C. Millar, tho dor.or. The winners will represent New Brighton in the contest for the Benson Shield on Saturday next.
