AKAROA

Tho fortnightly meeting of the Akaroa Borough Council was held on Wednesday. Present—The Mayor (Mr Geo. Armstrong), Crs. Fyfe, .Williams, Munro, Davia, Leete, and Kcrridgo. The resignation of Cr. H. Wilkina was received and accepted. Instructions were given to sue for all outstanding rates not paid before next Council meeting. Wilkina and Sons. i The Municipal Association's legal adviser forwarded certain instructions in respect to . payment of war bonus to Council employees. , In this connexion it was unanimously resolved that the Town Clerk be granted a 10 i per cent, war bonus until the end of the war. • The Mayor of Christchurch wrote in re- - gard to the work of the proposed Canterbury ! i Advancement league. lie asked that all . i public bodies in the Province should be •re- , I presented at the Conference to bo held in ' Christchurch on March 21st. The Mayor was deputed to act as Akaroa's representative, councillors all agreeing that it was 1 higji time something should be done in the direction indicated. The Arthur's Pass Tunnel League, Chris*ohurch, wrote in respect to the constitution of a deputation that would wait, at tile earliest possible date, on the Minister for Public Works to urge the completion of the work. Tlie Mayor was appointed to represent Akaroa on the deputation. It was agreed to call for tenders for the leasing of the Borough Kccreatian Ground for a term of three rents. The finance report showed receipts £135 electric light account (dr.t £2183 lis wharves account (cr.) £299 Os Bd, general account (dr.) £16 9a 7d, overdraft Bank of Xew Zealand £1901 Is 3d, accounts presented for payment £1157 lis 9d.—Adopted.
