VETERANS' ASSOCIATION.
The annual picnic of the_ Veterans' Association was held on Mr Ellison's faTm, Ric- j carton, on Saturday. There was a Urge attendance. Refreshments and games were provided for the children, who also had free access to the well-stocked orchard. J. Stmnear won the Veterans' race, with J. Kerr second, and J. Hahn third. Hobbs won I tho walking race, with Alpe, who conocded one lap handicap, a good second. The peg-f-imr competition, for married women, was won by Mra D. Lei?, Mrs Shead being second and Mrs Gwatkin third. A part of Avonside Boy Scouts, under the Scoutmaster (Brown) gave an exhibition during the after- , noon. Thanks ard duo to Mfessrs Sharpe Bros. "Long and BaVden, and McKenzie and Co., for the donations of groceries and. mineral waters.
