e EMPLOYEES' ANNUAL PICNIC. The employees of the Islincton ircezing Works held a most successful picnic, on the Riccarton Racecourse, on Saturday, between 70) ancl Kl"0 pcoplo being present. J Jerry'a Band was in attendance, and played Wit ircqueut intervals during the day. Sports and games, for both young and old, helped to make tho gathering a success. A number of vehicles were engaged conveying picnickers from as far as Tcmpleton, and special tramcars yeve run on tho Ricciirton liiw. Somn go«y iini«lies were fought out in the various events, a list of tbo winners being as follows: — August. Handicap, 120yds—J. C'oult-er 1, A. Hampton 2, H. Ibbctson 3. Islington Handicap, 120yds—G. McNally 1, A. Hampton 2, J. Coulter 3. Youths' Bicvcle Race, one mile and a half —T. J. Moffct 1, F. Carver 2, C. Jetl 3. Open Bicyclc Race, one mile and a half — H. Moffet 1. J. Coulter 2, E. Pcarco 3. Married Men's Race—Gaskill 1, L. Davie3 2, A. Spicer 3. Visitors' Race —E. Kerr 1, J. D. rox -. Stepping Competition—A. Johann6cn, A. Taylor, and T. Hill tied, and divided tho prizo money. Married Women's Knees —First: ALr« L)uniord J, Mrs Burrows 2, Mrs S. Lennox o. Second: Mrs JcfT 1, Mrs Hart 2. Young Women's Kiices—First: Miss Saundore, E. Patcreon 2. Second: Miss Cooper 1, Miss Coulter 2. Baby Show—Mrs C. B. Moody e boy 1, Mrs Button's girl 2. After the sports tho children had their innings, and for nearly two hours races were got off for their benefit; besides which ovary child present received a toy. Altogether the picnic was quite v.p to the hi-b standard of previous years/and reflects great credit on the members jof tho organising committee. V
