FOR THE SOLDIERS.
RED TRIANGLE WORK
WHAT IT MEANS
Tho number of wounded and maimed nldiers to be seen in the streets to-day 5 such an increasing quantity that the citizen hardly realises that CTer yone of three men has been away, fought, and offered his life for the protection of those at home. It has been heretofore left to the few to work unceasingly for the comfort and benefit of ,\"ew Zealand soldiers hero at homo or abroad; and just now there is on foot a special appeal in which every citizen and every family should bo interested and should take a part. We refer to the Y.M.C.A Red Triangle Day appeal.
A committee of business men lias taken up this work enthusiastically, and in a matter of toil days has raised £60! X). Practically another £10,000 is wanted for the fund before March 15th. and those who have not been waited upon personally, or who have not given, --hould rcaliso their responsibility and romc forward with their contribution. Every penny of tho money raised will be devoted to carrying on the splendid work, which means so much to the soldier thousand; of miles from his home and friends. The sum aimed at in this rampaign (£IOO, COO) is less than a penny pervdav per soldier. For an average outlay "of £1 per soldier per year tho Y.M.t'.A. provides the men with homelike comforts, entertainment, stationery, and refreshment in the trenches. l i unds in hand amount to barely sufficient to carry on the work for four months. Surely a request for £15,C00 from the citizens* of Christchurch is not asking too much? Thoso at home have their comforts, their pleasures, their entertainment, and their daily routine under safe and comfortable conditions.
Anyone who will ponder for a few moments on the above facts cannot have much difficulty in making up his mind asvto the duty cast upon him to respond to this appeal. The timo is short, and.the committee's offorts are worthy of assistance from every quarter. The committee's official address is 183 Cashel street, or P.O. Box 373. 1
" In the list of donations to the Y.M.C.A. War Fund, published yesterday, there appeared the name of Messrs Winslow Bros, and Smith (£SO), whereas tho contribution was, in fact, .Sent in by Messrs Winslow Bros., Ltd. (per W. l" Carney). 1
