H. Craighead and J. Burgess will represent tiie Ashburton Club in the Championship Doubles, and J. Burgess (skip), J. Angus, A. Galbraith, flnd W. Higgius in the Championship Rinks, both games to be played in Chnstchurcii next Saturday.

The time for the completion of the championship games in connexion with the llangiora Club has been extended to the end of this month. In tlie rink coniuetition Elford has played all his games for 5 wins and 1 loss, and his rink has been entered for the centre championship. Two other rinks have still several games to get off and one, if not the two, may yet have to pia.v off with Elford for the club championship. f

Tho Doubles competition may be said to have been won by Cresswoll and Elford, who have no.t yet been defeated. The Singles have reaped a verv interesting siage, as Elford and Cress well, with 1) wins and - losses each and one to play, are equal. It is almost certain that these two will have to fight out the ciiampidnshio They are the club's representatives in tne Champion of Cnampions Doubles.

Now that tho Centre Club competitions are a thing ol the past, 1 liko to make a few remarks upon tne scheme. It is generally accepted that some arrangement is necessary y which the clubs can be brought ogether in friendly social competition. Several methods have been adopted during past years, with varying s - cess. Tlie present schemo has proved a good one, with a few object, on able features. Some clubs affiliate tho Christchurch Centre are of recent -ruan. and bo far as playing strength

goes, arc inferior to those of older age, consequently to give the younger cuius a chance, some consideration was roquirod from the older clubs in order to put them on some equality. This, I regret to say, was not done, several clubs losing sight of the social sido altogether in their keenness to rank as winners. For instance, Canterbury, the second oldest' club in the Centre, was content to play one team, placing themselves on a par with the Kaiapoi Working Men's and other country clubs. Christcliurch and United nominated two teams, putting themselves on the same footing as New Brighton. "With four sections, it was anticipated that all the older clubs would enter one team in each. Sydenham, Linwood, and EcLgeware each had three teams competing, and tho two first-named won the B and C bo:- ! tions respectively. Sumner also did « well in winning section A. Somo dissatisfaction is rife among club members in being left so frequently on the bank, and tho junior clubs havo. good cause to complain, for under the existing arrangement their hope of becoming the actual banner winner is very remote. When discussing this question later, the Centre delegates should keep this anomaly in mind, with a view of rectifying it next season. ♦ * * ♦ * Entries for the Champion Singles close on Thursday evening. * * * * ♦ In the Linwood Champion Singles, Healey, Cooper, Howarth, and Bureon arc leading in the four sections. « * • * * As showing tho consistency of somo of the players taking part in the Centre Championships, it may be mentioned that there are no fewer than sixteen who aro interested in both tho Kinks and Doubles. iSoveral are in the three events, or are still in the running for the Singles Championship, E. J. lay lor, of Opawa, being one who has done the hat trick. The final of the Championship Singles of the Sumner Club was played last night between W. F. Raphael and H. Barlow. Barlow opened with one on the first head, and registered three on the second, the score on the fourth being nine to nil. Raphael broke the ice on the fifth head. At the eleventh the score stood nine to twelve in Barlow's favour. Tho second half of the board went almost entirely to Barlow, Raphael only scoring on one head; The. game> game finished on the nineteenth head with the score—Barlow 26, Raphael 11. CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT. ' Tho Centre Championship Tournament will commence on tho L'nited green on Saturday, tho following being the draw: — Rinks—Papanui a bye, Opawa v.* United, Sydenham v. Chriatchurch, St. Albans v. Linwood, Now Brighton v. Edgewaje, Rangiora v. Ashburton, Kaiapoi v. Canterbury, Sumner v. Lyttelton. Doubles —Sumner a bye, Canterbury v. Now Brighton, Kaiapoi v.
