J * | RAY BLANK CUP COMPETITION. ' WON BY TAYLOR'S MISTAKE TEAM. The second annual competition for tho Ra>' Blank Life Saving Cup took place on tl>e Sumner beach on Saturday afternoon, in the presence of a large gathering of rer.identa arid visitors. Although the weather conditions were ideal, there was. a very smooth sea, with hardly any breakers, and this rather militated against a good exhibition of surf work. The four teams wheh competed, however, gave a good display and carried out their work in a manner which demonstrated that very careful training had been indulged in. The work of the winning team was exceptionally clean and neat, and although tho .timo registered was not the faeteet, it was generally expected it would secure the verdict. Tho Sumner team, ■ which secured second place, was only one mark behind, but its reel .and lino work was not equal to that of the visitors. The twomen events also attracted a great deal of interest. this event also being won by the Taylor's Mistake representatives. Mr G. F. Allen (vice-chairman of the Sumner Club), in the abeenco of the chairman, welcomed the visitors, and in a, happy speech referred to tho good work which wius . being done on the beaches by life. aav'ns' societies. He made special referenoo to the handsome shield which had been given, by Mr W. H. Benson to encourage the work amongst boys. This shield would be competed for at New Brighton very shortly.
