SPRINGS.

The Springs County Council met on Thursday. Present—Councillors I. Andrew (chairman), Alex. Thompson, W. J. McMillan, and

John Stalker. , ..... A resolution of sympathy was carried with Mr Miller, of Motukarara, a former contractor, who had met with a serious ocCident. Tho Halswell County Council invited Springs to appoint delegates to attend a conference to discuss tho question of tho rough motor truffic on county roads. The chairman and Cr. Kime wero appointed delegates.

A suggestion from the Ellesmere County Council that the two counties should between them bear half the coat of recent impfovement3 to the Upper Sclwyn ford was agreed to. j

The County Council having decided to open the Leestcn road ford at the Selwyn, it was decided to have the approach on the Springs side put in good order.

Am application from Mr Hodgon for the use of Carr'a road for grazing purposes was held over, pending the result of an interview bv Cr. McMillan.

Cr.' McMillan reported upon an inspection of Miller's bridge. m:t<le in company with members of tlie Wairewa Council. A proposal hud been rna/dc 'hat the present structure .should be replaced by two concrete walls. with a 20ft =pan and ironbark etrinners, the present decking to be used again. There was a doubt ns to whether a good foundation could be secured {or the concrete.

It was decided to write to the Wairewa Council suggesting that tho foundations should bo te3tcd by an independent engineer

Ta<> Canterbury Acclimatisation Society asked the Council's assistance in regulating the speed at which motor-boats travelled on th? Selwyn river, as the fast rate of speed was annoying to anglers. The clerk was directed to reply that the Council had no jurisdiction in the matter.
