♦ ■ — HIGH SCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIP. The swimming championship of the Christ* church Boys' High School is embodied in the 100 yds race in the annual sports, which. 1 event was decided in the school baths on — 1 Thursday. There were four 1 Harris (last year's champion), Lowe, Hoi- I lander and Lightband. Harris started off ' badly, but at the end of two lengths waa on terms with Low, both being slightly .behind j Hollander. At the; last turn Low and Lightband collided, and Harris, swimming a ! alow, but powerful stroke, managed to touch" tho final edge a few inches in front of Hoi- ( lander. The time, 6®sec, lowered the existing record by 1 4-sth sec. 1 ~ , The neat dive competition was - also decid- .. Ed, Crosbie coming first and Orchard eeoond, - out of 25 competitors. KAIAPOI SCHOOL SPOBTS. ' The annual swimming sports'of "the Kaiapoi District High School were held in tho Coronation Baths, Kaiapoi, yesterday afternoon. The racing was keen., and some ex- ■ cellent finishes were witnessed. A special ; feature of the afternoon was an exhibition • of life-saving by Mie- Fitzsunmons _of , tralia, who, with the assistance of girl swim- , iners, gave a practical demonstration of the various methods of releasing the.'dangerous clutches of a drowning person, and bringing i the rescued person to shore.' Appreciation , of the display woo expressed ,by those • pre- ! aent giving hearty cheers for Mrs Fitzaimmons.
