The position in regard to potatoes is causing much uneasinos-s. Supplies coming forward no more than meet requirements, and this is considered an unsatisfactory sign at this time of the year, when the stocks in hand should be abundant. Everything points to a much smaller yield than that obtained last year. The cause of the trouble is blight, due to the wet season. CHItISTCHURCH STOCK EXCHANGE. LATEST QUOTATIONS. Buvers. (Received February 28th, 10.10 p.m.) SYDNEY, February 23. The boom in Broken Hill Proprietary shares continues. They touched 78s to-dey, finislflng at 775, on the strength of rumours that the steelworks are to be run as a separate concern, and a company floated with a capital of over £1,000,000. Other rumours are to the effect that a bonus on shares is to be issued to shareholders, and the capital increased. The secretary of the company declares there is not an atom of truth in the rumour that the steelworks are to be run separately.
