| V Mr "W. E. L. Jennings, late cf the National Bank, has been appointed associate to Mr Justice Hordman. Major T. P. Hal pin, of Wellington, is at present on a visit to Christchurch. Mr E. J. Jenkins, of the Napier Railway Workshops, retired on superannuation on Saturday, after thirty-four years' service. Surgeon-General Henderson and Colonel Christie passed through Christchurch on their way north last evening. Mr Williamson, of Sydney, a mining engineer, and Mr Chas. H. Holland, M.1.M.E., of Canada, who are examining the asbestos deposits of New Zealand, aro at present on the "West Coast. Mr Harold Gregson, the Auckland organist, is visiting Wellington for health-recruiting purposes. Owing to an accident sustained on the Main Trunk railway, some months ago, he had recently to undergo an operation for tho removal of his right thumbnail, which has, naturally, interfered a good deal with his work. Major E. J. Hulbert, D.5.0., late Staff Captain to the New Zealand Mounted Rifle Brigade in Palestine, who recently roturned to the Dominion on furlough after continuous foreign service since the outbreak of war, has reported at Featherston Camp for duty. He will sail in command of the 35th and 36th Reinforcoments, on his return to the front. Advice has been roceived that Private Andrew Hughes has been awarded tho Military Medal for gallantry on the field of action. Private Hughes, who is a Nelson boy, and an ox-pupil of tho Nelson College, is well-known in motoring circles in Christchurch and Auckland. He resigned his position as foreman for Dexter and Crozior, Ltd., to enlist, and left as a specialist with the 6th Reinforcements. He served eight weeks on Gallipoli an d was ono of the last New Zealandors to leave the Peninsula. He was afterwards transferred to the Despatch Riders, and went with tho Main Body to Franco, where he has boen ever since, with the exception of a short furlough ,n England.
